Fibromyalgia ranks high as the most common condition affecting your bones and muscles. Even though it is often misdiagnosed and misunderstood it is extremely painful, causing joint and muscle pain , extreme fatigue, anxiety, depression, insomnia, and a myriad of other very real maladies. The bottom line is that those who suffer from Fibromyalgia experience pain throughout the body from this often debilitating disorder.
Sadly, the medical profession has yet to determine a definitive test for this condition, never mind a treatment. It remains a mysterious “modern disease”. Because there is currently no definitive testing, you might imagine how difficult is was for me to find and quote reliable studies for this writing. If a condition can’t be defined, how can we test to see what would help? Test what?
The best bet for getting information seems to be one of the many support groups such as NFA. As patients are desperate for help and alternatives, there is more and more anecdotal evidence that CBD can help. Crowds of Fibromyalgia patients are beginning to comment on CBD as a successful treatment.
Dr. Ethan Russo, neurologist and medical scientist, has put forth a theory based on his study clinical endocannabinoid deficiency that possibly explains this difficult illness. In an interview with Project CBD Russo says, “it occurred to me that a number of very common diseases seem to fit a pattern that would be consistent with an endocannabinoid deficiency, especially these are migraine, irritable bowel syndrome, and fibromyalgia. They have some things in common. They’re all hyper-algesic syndromes, meaning that there seems to be pain out of proportion to what should be going on.”
Dr. Russo suggests that these patients consider boosting a depleted endocannabinoid system with phytocannabinoids found in the cannabis plant such as CBD.
